Barcodes allow companies to distribute and sell their products in a variety of Point of Sale retail and Online stores. Before you can start selling your products, you have to acquire a barcode for each unique product that you plan on selling. At Barcodes Pro, it’s our goal to assist our customers in securing high quality barcodes for the lowest prices.

Barcodes are based on international standards that ensure compatibility across retailers, distributors, and marketplaces worldwide. The most common formats are UPC and EAN, both part of the GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) system.
The Universal Product Code (UPC) is a 12-digit barcode used primarily in the United States and Canada. It's the standard format for retail products in North America.
The European Article Number (EAN) is a 13-digit barcode format used internationally. It’s the global equivalent of UPC and is accepted by retailers and marketplaces worldwide.
GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) refers to the broader system that includes both UPC (GTIN-12) and EAN (GTIN-13). It’s the globally recognized standard for identifying individual retail products. Whether you use a UPC or an EAN, both are valid GTINs that ensure your products can be sold and tracked internationally.
Some retailers may not accept the GTIN (EAN & UPC) numbers and Artwork issued by Barcodes Pro because the GTIN number or Artwork is not purchased directly through the GS1. Learn more about these retailers.
Barcode AcceptanceTo get a barcode for your product please follow the following steps:
Go to Pricing.
Select a package which fits best to your needs or manually add the needed quantity to your cart.
Fill your first and last names, company name, your product names for which you are buying a barcode, and the email to which we will send the barcode (If you need to buy more than 5 barcodes, you need to register).
Checkout and make a payment.
Wait for your barcode: it would take 5-10 seconds to get back to your order page and also to get an email from info@barcodes.pro with your order details and download link. All UPC and EAN barcodes will be sent in SVG, PNG image formats and in XLS, CSV spreadsheets.
After you get your barcode, you can edit the name, detailed information and specifications of your product on the Barcodes Pro Database (GEPIR) if you are a registered user on Barcodes Pro.
Barcodes Pro reserves the right and continue to be legally permitted to assign their company prefix numbers to our customers (companies, businesses, organizations or people) since Barcodes Pro purchased company prefixes from GS1 (formerly UCC or Uniform Code Council) before the class action suit has been settled in 2002.
Learn moreBoth 13-digit EAN-13 and 12-digit UPC barcodes follow the same basic structure under the global GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) standard. Each barcode is made up of three parts:
The first set of digits identifies the Barcodes Pro member company that owns the barcode. This prefix is not necessarily tied to the country of manufacture.
Note: EAN-13 codes that start with "0" are functionally equivalent to UPC-A codes, with a leading zero added to meet the 13-digit format.
This portion is assigned by the company to identify a specific product or variation (e.g., size, color, flavor). The combined length of the company prefix and product number is usually 12 digits for EAN-13 and 11 for UPC, leaving space for the final check digit.
The check digit is an additional digit, used to verify that a barcode has been scanned correctly.
Although some prefixes may resemble country codes, they do not indicate where a product was made. They simply show which organization (such as Barcodes Pro or GS1) issued the barcode. For example, a product made in China could have a barcode starting with "0", "79", or any other prefix, depending on where the barcode was registered - not manufactured.
Barcodes Pro handles the entire barcode assignment process for you - including prefix allocation, product code generation, and check digit calculation. You don’t need to memorize formats or do any math. Just focus on naming your products, and we take care of the technical structure behind each barcode.
All barcodes are available in SVG, PNG formats and different styles for download.
