EAN Barcode Structure
The 13-digit EAN-13 European Article Number as a GTIN standard consists of these three main components.
Company prefix code
The first digits of the EAN-13 identify the Barcodes Pro Member Organization (not necessarily where the product is actually made). EAN-13 codes starting with a 0 typically represent standard 12-digit UPC codes with a prepended zero to fit the 13-digit EAN format.
Product code
The product code is assigned by the manufacturer. It immediately follows the manufacturer code. The combined length of the manufacturer and product codes should be 12 digits.
Check digit
The check digit is an additional digit, used to verify that a barcode has been scanned correctly.
